Micah Chapter 4
vs 1-2 In the last days - the mountain of the Lord's temple will be established as chief among the mountains...Many nations will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths....
This prophecy is almost identical to Isaiah 2. Isaiah and Micah were contemporaries. They could have been quoting an older prophecy or it wouldn't have been surprising God would give both of them the same message to emphasize the importance of His Word and its lasting impact.
As a prophet whose role was to listen to God and then convey His words to the people, Micah tells of a resolution that is to come, describing the world flowing into Jerusalem to meet with the Lord and worship Him. When he uses the term "peoples," he is referring to the Gentiles coming to Jerusalem to worship the King. At this time, God's purpose and His Kingdom will not be tucked away, hidden from the eyes of those who are not Jewish, but will be established on top of the mountains for all mankind to see. A steady stream of the earth's inhabitants will come to worship the one true God who satisfies, not the many false gods who only offer empty promises.

vs 4 Everyone will sit under their own vine and under their own fig tree, and no will make them afraid but for the Lord Almighty has spoken.
Every man will sit "under his vine and under his fig tree" is a proverbial expression that means prosperity and peace. (1 Kings 4:25, 2 Kings 18:31)
This day will come because God has declared it!
The words of Micah show us that there is hope for the future because, even though it may seem that disaster is eminent, God will relent, return and restore His people back to right relationship with Him. And we, as Christians, also possess this hope through God's Son Jesus, who paid the price for our sins, returned from death and restores us to a right relationship with God because of His sacrifice.

vs 5 All the nations may walk in the name of their gods, we will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever.
This shall be the state of the Gentile world; but after the captivity, the Jews walked in the name of Jehovah alone; and acknowledge no other object of religious worship to the present day.
Today, we can find a godly perspective for living if we purpose not to walk in the ways of the world — pursuing false gods of fame, finance or fleeting pleasures — but "walk in the name of the LORD our God forever and ever"

vs 6 "In that day," declares the Lord....
is this talking about the return from the Babylonian captivity?
vs 12 But they do not know the thoughts of the Lord, they do not understand His plan, He who gathers them like sheaves to the threshing floor.
So often in life, it seems as if God doesn't understand us. However, this is never the case. Instead, it is us who fail to understand what the Lord's plan is. It may appear that He is being slow to respond or remedy a situation. Or that He doesn't see the whole story or at least that He doesn't see the impact that a situation is having on a loved one or on us. The truth is that His ways are not our ways, and we won't always understand His actions, but we can trust in His great love for us.

We may not know or understand God's thoughts and actions but we can be assured that He always has our best interest at heart.
Romans 11:34 "For who has known the mind of the Lord,or who has been his counselor?” Psalm 40:5 You have multiplied, O Lord my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you! I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told. Psalm 16:11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 86:11 Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name. |
Prayer: Father, I look forward to the time when You will bring all of history to its final resolution. Thank You for sending Your Son so I can live in eternity with You forever. In Jesus' name, amen.
