"3:1-11 Peter and John encounter beggar on way to Temple for afternoon prayer
The beggar crippled from birth (vs 22 the man was now over 40 years old) asked Peter and John for money. Instead of ignoring him, they looked him in the eye and offered him something better. Peter responded "In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." The man was immediately healed and followed them into the temple "walking, jumping and praising God."
The people were filled with "wonder and amazement" (vs 10) and because of their astonishment, came running to Peter and John (vs 11)
3:12-16 Peter responds and tells them how this man was healed
"....Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?....the God of our fathers has glorified His servant Jesus. You handed Him over to be killed and you disowned Him before Pilate...You disowned the Holy and Righteous One....You killed the author of life but God raised Him from the dead. We are witnesses of this."
vs 16 "By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus' name and the faith that comes through Him that has given this complete healing to him as you can all see.
The miracles and signs that Jesus did, He did because He couldn't help but respond to the needs of the people around Him but He did more so to authenticate His mission and His identity as the Son of God. Peter is now explaining what happened to Jesus and that this healing further demonstrates Who Christ is and further authenticates Christ's claims and the mission of the Apostles.
3:17- Peter responds to the ignorance of the people and the leaders
Peter explains that although they were responsible for their actions, the death of Christ was planned as foretold by the prophets. So they are to now respond not in ignorance but out of repentance...turn to God and be refreshed so that God can "send the Christ that is appointed to you" [in your hearts through the Spirit]. Jesus must remain [physically[ "in heaven until the time comes for God to restore everything as promised".
How did they respond? 4:4 "But many who head the message believed and the number of men grew to about five thousand."
I nope this included the healed beggar!
