“Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness
and who seek the Lord:
Look to the rock from which you were cut
and to the quarry from which you were hewn;
2 look to Abraham, your father,
and to Sarah, who gave you birth.
When I called him he was only one man,
and I blessed him and made him many.
God gives us the picture of His people all being cut from the same vast quarry. That quarry that we are cut from is our Jewish heritage! We all come from the same quarry as Abraham and Sarah, as well as the other famous Jewish forefathers, such as Isaac, Joseph, Moses Joshua, Deborah, David, Hezekiah Ruth, and the New Testament heroes like John the Baptist, Peter, Paul, John and others. Our roots are in our Jewish heritage and amazingly we are cut out of the same stones as they were! (See http://acts242study.com/look-to-the-rock-from-which-you-were-cut/)
He comforts them in their present pain by pointing them to the fulfillment of His promises: "…joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the voice of song" (Isaiah 51:3).
God breathed on an impossible situation for Abraham and Sarah, bringing life out of barrenness and multiplying their offspring. (Isaiah 51:2) In the same way, God would grow the remnant of Israel that remained into "a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb" (Revelation 7:9).
Temporal things in which we so readily place our trust will fade away; even "the earth will wear out like a garment" (Isaiah 51:6). Only God's eternal salvation and righteousness remain indestructible, a refuge for all who seek Him. (Isaiah 51:7-8) As Israel lifted her gaze to the permanency of God's promise, she was freed from the fear of man. (Isaiah 51:12-16)
Don't let circumstances siphon your hope. Tether yourself firmly to the assurance of His eternal salvation. Isaiah 51 stands as a powerful reminder that nothing can overshadow us when we stay in the shadow of His hand.
