- We are His creation. God reminds us that He is Creator. Vs 1 "He who created you, Jacob, He who formed you, Israel"
The type of creation that God does is take non-existent matter and create something out of nothing. This is an echo of what is happening in Genesis chapters 1 and 2. And the very next word is that He formed us, He takes the non-existent material and He actually forms us with His own hands. Think about the intimacy of that. He takes His own breath and breathes it into humanity. This word for "form" is "yatsar" which is the same word that's used of a potter who creates earth and objects.
The One who creates has the responsibility to determine the destiny and the purpose of that created object.
Let's remember that God is the Creator, we are the created. Which means that God has a specific destiny for those that He creates. We have to reorient ourselves around this truth.
I am His creation. He created me for His purposes and has purposed me to bring Him glory in all that I do.
- We are redeemed. We also have to remember that in Genesis 3 we know that the fall happens. The next descriptor of God, that He redeemed. He didn't leave us in a place of fallenness. He actually stepped into human history. The constant action of God as Redeemer...from Egypt (vs 16( , from the wilderness (vs 19) and from exile.
I am redeemed. Jesus redeemed me as my kinsman redeemer. He bought me back, purchased through His blood and sacrifice. He redeemed me from a life lost without Him. He redeemed me from a place of fallenness and brought me to a place of fullness in Him. - We are His. God also calls by name and declares "you are mine". We're His because He created and formed us. We're His because He's redeemed us. Go back into your past and recollect every one of those instances that God has been faithful. Let that bring an assurance of His future faithfulness because He chose to have a personal intimate relationship with us. Notice that it says that "You've been called by name. You are Mine." To say that you've been called by name is to say that in a sense, you're on a first-name basis with God.
I belong to Him. He called me by my name and declares that I am His. What a love story. He knows my name and has been merciful to reveal Himself to me. He has chosen me...saught after me. He has a unique purpose in my for my story. His testimony is a part of my story. - We are precious and honored in His sight. God said because He loves loves, He considers us precious and honored in His sight. This is His motivation for redemption. This is why He can choose, not to overlook our sins, but look beyond our sins and rescue us from the destruction and destiny of our own making.
I am precious and honored in His sight. This is His motivation for redeeming me and speaking promises over my life.
Isaiah 43:12 "I have revealed and saved and proclaimed - I, and not some foreign god among you."
God is the One who has revealed Himself, saved us and proclaimed His promises over us. When we are facing a trial, we need to remember God's faithfulness and the identity He has spoken and declared over us. We need to reflect and remember the things that He has done in the past for us and His people. Know that He is still faithful to be with us in the middle of a storm and in the future.
